Hinckley Half Marathon 2011
KEEPTHEBEAT was so grateful to Alex Foster who got our fundraising off the ground in 2011, by putting herself through a huge amount of agony both training for and running her first Half Marathon.
Before the event Alex wrote:
My Fundraising Event : Hinckley Half Marathon 8th May 2011
About My Event : It has always been my ambition to run a marathon. This is somthing I never though that I would or could do because I don't like running. I've always looked at people who run with admiration and wished that I could do that. My target is to complete a challenge which will take me to my absolute limit- physically and mentally. Up until April last year I had never ran for more than about three miles, and I hated that.
Fundraising Target £500.00
My Reasons for Supporting KEEPTHEBEAT :
I was at work on the day I received the message that was to change the way I look at life. My dear friends faced the worst time of their life with their new baby undergoing open heart surgery at just a few days old. They were amazing, an inspiration , they stayed strong for Albert and for the rest of the family. Their friends and family rallied round and supported them in any way we could, and I guess it is that support network that I want to help provide to other families.
I see how they continue with their family life and how normal that appears, but I know the heartache and anxiety that they suffer and want to somehow elleviate any of that. I do not have a magic wand, I cannot make the situation better, but what I can do is dedicate some of my time and energy into fundraising and into making the charity a success. In supporting families who are also about to start this journey and to let them know that there is help out there along with a great deal of hope.
On the days when its raining and cold and I really don't want to go out running I think of Albert (now my precious Godson), Adam, Annita and the rest of their lovely family. I know that they don't get to choose the days when they don't want to face the bad stuff, and these are the days when I stop moaning, get my trainers on and go!!
Her run was a huge success and we hope that Alex is very proud of herself as it was a great achievement, particularly when she did not enjoy one bit of it! Alex used Virgin Money Giving and good old fashioned sponsor forms to organise her sponsorship.
With everyones help and generosity she raised a huge £512.00. Thanks so much to all of her sponsors.
We were wondering if this may become an annual event for Alex, but judging by her comments before, during and after we think not!
