Coast 2 Coast In a Day Cycle Ride
On 30 June 2012 its planned that 8 riders from keepthebeat cycling will attempt to cycle Coast to Coast in a day. The route is often cycled, but usually spread over 3, 4 or 5 days. 145 Miles of riding climbing a total of 4600 metres this is an epic challenge.
Soon after the start in Seascale the riders will face the challenges of Hardnott Pass and Wrynose Pass, rated as two of the most difficult climbs in the British Isles. They then ride through the Lake District, the Yorkshire dales, accross the Vale of York and finally the Northern Valleys of the North York Moors, finishing by the sea in Whitby. Even established cyclists recognise this as a huge distance in a day, particularly in view of the terrain covered.
The challenge faced by the riders is nothing when compared to the fight that a child faces when born with a Congenital Heart Defect. For many of these children, intensive surgery, long hospital says and regular medication becomes a way of life. The 8 riders hope that a day of mental torture and physical pain can help so many by supporting KEEPTHEBEAT.
Riders are:
- Adam Tansey
- Graham Rowntree
- Damian Roberts
- Martin Kennedy
- David Warren
- Steve Green
- Simon Crouch
- Kelvin Southan
